Quick answer
Most roof calls in Memphis come after a storm, and most of them do not need a new roof. Wind lifts a few courses, a pipe boot cracks, or flashing pulls away from a chimney, and that is a repair. When shingles are shedding granules across the whole slope and the roof is past twenty years, replacement is the honest answer. We tell you which one you have, with photos.
If your ceiling stained after the last line of storms rolled through, the leak is usually not directly above the stain. Water runs down the underside of the decking and drops where it finds a nail. That is why we start every visit on the roof with a camera, not with a price sheet. You see what we see, and the estimate follows the pictures.

Why roofing in Memphis is its own trade
Memphis roofs take a beating that most of the country does not see. The August 2026 bow echo pushed straight-line winds past 70 mph across Shelby County and dropped trees onto homes from Midtown out to Collierville, and the NWS Memphis office notes that summer wind damage here comes almost entirely from these pop-up convective storms rather than tornadoes. The result is a roofing season that never really ends.
The housing stock adds its own problems. Central Gardens and the rest of Midtown carry steep 1900 to 1930 gable roofs with chimneys and dead valleys that need real flashing work, while the 1990s subdivisions in older Cordova are reaching the age where whole slopes fail at once. Both need different crews, different materials and different advice, and we bring the right one.
One more thing the county does not tell you. Shelby County does not require a permit to reroof a single-family house unless decking is replaced, so most reroofs never get inspected by anyone but the contractor. We photograph the decking, the underlayment and the flashing at each stage and send you the set, so your roof has a record whether or not an inspector ever sees it.

Warning signs
Six signs your roof needs a call
None of these fix themselves, and most get more expensive with every storm that follows.
A stain on the ceiling
Water found a way in, and the entry point is rarely right above the stain.
Shingles in the yard
Wind broke the seal strip, and the course above is now open to the next rain.
Granules in the gutters
Heavy granule loss means the shingles are wearing through their protective layer.
Daylight in the attic
Gaps at the ridge, a pipe boot or the decking let in more than light.
Curling or cupped shingles
Attic heat and age bake shingles from underneath until the edges lift.
A sagging roofline
Soft or rotted decking needs attention before a storm loads it again.
How it runs
What happens after you call

Call, any hour
A person answers, day or night. For an active leak we talk you through what to do right now and get a roofer moving.
- 02
Roof walk with a camera
We photograph every slope, valley, penetration and flashing line, plus the attic side when we can get to it, before anything is priced.
- 03
Report you keep
The photos and a plain-language findings list come to you the same day, whether the answer is a patch, a section, or a new roof.
- 04
Written scope and price
One page: what gets replaced, what gets reused, the shingle or membrane and the underlayment by name, and the number.
- 05
The work, documented
Tear-off, decking, ice and water shield, underlayment, flashing and the finished roof are photographed at each stage.
- 06
Cleanup and walk-through
Magnet sweep of the yard, gutters cleared of debris, and a final look at the roof with you before we leave.
Where we work
Serving Memphis, TN and the surrounding suburbs
Rock & Roll Roofs works from an office on Memphis Arlington Rd in the northeast of the city, which puts Bartlett, Cordova, Lakeland and Arlington a few minutes away and the rest of Shelby County inside a normal drive.
Coverage is the whole county and the close suburbs, not a hundred-mile radius. That is on purpose: a roofer who can be back on your street in twenty minutes when the second storm hits is worth more than one with a bigger map. The service area page spells out where we go and where we stop.

How we run jobs
What you can hold us to
Photos before prices
You get the roof-walk pictures before an estimate exists, so the scope is something you can check, not something you have to trust.
Repairs are offered when they fit
A creased ridge cap or a split pipe boot is a repair. We say so, even when a replacement would be the bigger ticket.
Materials named on the estimate
Shingle line, underlayment, ice and water shield and ridge vent are written down by brand, so what goes on the roof is what you paid for.
Storm documentation done properly
Photo sets, chalk-marked hail bruising and a measured diagram, prepared the way adjusters expect to see them.
Answering around the clock
A storm at 2 a.m. gets the same answered phone as a question at 2 p.m., seven days a week.

Questions Memphis homeowners ask first
Calls are answered around the clock. For an active leak we schedule the first available roofer and, when rain is still falling, a tarp or temporary cover first so the ceiling stops taking water. Permanent repairs happen once the roof is dry enough to seal properly.
Both, and we say which one your roof needs. A blown-off course, a cracked boot or a chimney flashing leak is a repair. Granule loss across every slope on a roof over twenty years old is a replacement conversation, and we show you the photos that make the case either way.
Usually not for a single-family reroof; the county policy only requires a permit when decking is replaced. When we do open decking, the permit is pulled before the work starts, and either way you get the stage-by-stage photo set.
Yes. We document the damage with photos and a diagram, meet the adjuster on the roof, and review the carrier's scope against what the roof actually needs. The claim is yours and the decision to file is yours; we make sure the paperwork reflects the roof.
Architectural shingles from GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed and TAMKO on most homes, with designer lines and metal panels for people who want them. The brand and product line is written on the estimate so there is no substitution on the day.
Yes. TPO, EPDM and modified bitumen on commercial buildings, plus the low-slope porch and addition roofs that so many Memphis homes carry. Commercial leak calls get the same 24/7 answering as residential.
